Waiting in the Waiting Room: Trusting God's Timing in Singleness

We’ve all been there — sitting in a waiting room. The air is still, the clock ticks a little louder than usual, and you're wondering when your name will finally be called. Others come in after you and get called before you. Some get what they need quickly, while you’re left flipping through old magazines or scrolling your phone, trying to distract yourself from the growing frustration.
Sound familiar?
The waiting room is more than just a space in a doctor’s office — it’s also a perfect picture of what it feels like to wait on God, especially in the area of singleness.
You Checked In — Now What?
Many of us have “checked in” with God long ago — we’ve prayed, fasted, healed, grown, and surrendered. We’ve asked Him for a godly spouse, trusting that He hears us. But as the months and years go by, it can feel like your name is never going to be called. You look around and see friends getting married, starting families, walking into what looks like their promised land — and it’s easy to wonder, “Did God forget me?”
Let me encourage you: God has not forgotten you. He sees you. He knows your name. And He will call you at the exact moment you’re meant to step into the next season of your life.
There’s Purpose in the Waiting Room
It’s tempting to think nothing is happening while we wait. But God does some of His deepest work in the waiting room.
It’s where character is developed.
It’s where trust is built.
It’s where roots go deep, so when the blessing comes, we’re mature enough to carry it.
Waiting doesn’t mean wasting. You’re not “behind.” You’re not less worthy. You're not forgotten. You’re in process.
God isn’t just preparing the promise — He’s preparing you for the promise.
Some Will Be Called Before You — Let Them Go
Just like in a real waiting room, others might get called before you. You might see younger women getting married, friends who haven’t walked with God as long, or even people who seem less “ready.” That comparison can hurt. But remember this:
Someone else’s calling doesn’t cancel yours.
Rejoice with them — they’re simply being called to a different room, at a different time. Their season doesn't diminish your own. Your time will come, too.
Stay in the Room
The temptation to walk out is real. Maybe you’ve said things like:
“Maybe I’m just meant to be alone forever.”
“It shouldn’t take this long.”
“I’ll just take matters into my own hands.”
But don't let impatience talk you out of your promise. The enemy would love for you to give up five minutes before your name is called.
Stay in the room.
Keep worshiping. Keep serving. Keep becoming the woman God is calling you to be. The wait isn’t punishment — it’s preparation. And when the door opens, you’ll walk through it with peace, confidence, and clarity.
God Is Never Late
Habakkuk 2:3 says:
“Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.”
God doesn’t operate on our timelines, but He is never late. His timing is perfect, and His promises are sure. When He brings your husband — the one He designed for you — it will be worth every second you waited.
Final Thoughts
To the woman still sitting in the waiting room: Don’t lose heart.
Your name will be called.
Your story is unfolding.
Your season is coming.
And when it does, you’ll look back on this time and thank God for the work He did while you were waiting.
Until then, stay faithful. Stay hopeful. And stay in the room.
